1、perplex /pəˈpleks/

perplex是及物动词，意为“使…困惑，使…费解”。

The disease has continued to perplex doctors.

这种疾病仍然困扰着医生。

she was perplexed by her husband's moodiness.

她对丈夫的闷闷不乐感到困惑不解。

2、persecute /ˈpɜːsɪkjuːt/

persecute是动词，意为“迫害”，通常指政治或宗教上的。名词形式为persecution。

Throughout history, people have been persecuted for their religious beliefs.

人们因宗教信仰而受迫害的情况贯穿了整个历史。

The Puritans left England to escape being persecuted.

清教徒离开了英格兰以躲避迫害。

We had to leave the country because of the persecutions.
